Cobham's poor run continues.

For seventy minutes in this local derby there wasn't much between the two sides. A Kevin Blackham free-kick seperated the sides for a long time, but the 4-0 scoreline at the end of the game flattered the Holt team and didn't really paint a true picture of the game.

Cobham started much the better of the two sides and could and maybe should of been 2-0 up within the first 10 minutes. Jones and Campbell both missing good oppotunities early on, but it was the pace of Holland that was causing problems for the Cobham side and it was him that dragged Holt on top in this game. The only goal of the first half came about when Holland broke free through the middle of the park to be confronted by the on rushing Robbins. Holland side stepped Robbins but was clipped just outside the box, Robbins was lucky to stay on the pitch but the two men getting back on the line saved him from that fate. From the resulting free kick Blackham drilled the ball into the bottom corner of the goal leaving Robbins with no chance. Holland was then very lucky to stay on the pitch, after already being booked for dissent he then lunged in on Hallum with a two footed challenge. The referee blew up for a foul but bottled the decision to send him off. Holland obviously believed he could get away with anything now, so decided to flare up the Hounsel after a good strong challenge from the full-back. But again the ref bottled it and let him off again.

The half ended 1-0 with both teams creating chances but not converting, this ended up coming back to haunt Cobham again as it has done all season.

After the break Cobham started the half the better of the two teams again, but didn't convert their possession into goals. With twenty minutes to go Holt broke away through Holland, he hit a weak shot from the right hand side of the box which squeezed under the unlucky Robbins. This was the end of the game as a contest, the Cobham side who had worked so hard to get back onto level terms were demoralised.

For the last 20 minutes it was one way traffic with Holt surging forward and they managed to score another two goals. This was very unfair on the Cobham side that had worked very hard during the game but the number of missed chances throughout the season is costing them dearly.

Sturminster Newton 2 - 3 Cobham Sports

Another exciting game involving Cobham sports on Saturday, any game involving Sports this season has guaranteed goals. From six games Sports have entertained the crowds with a total of 22 goals, obviously this isn't helping out the new Cobham manager who seems to be having kittens with every attack the opposition have.

Again changes had to be made to the Cobham line up due to holidays, Johnston off to Magaluf to become 'the one and only' for the week. In came the experience of Raines at the back moving Penn to full-back after impressing the week before in his first appearance of the season. Williams came back into the middle of the park moving 'Den Perry Mason' onto the left wing.

A first start was handed to Campbell up front to take some of the work load off Gunn, this tactic made an immediate impact with Sports taking the lead through Gunn following some good football between Campbell, Edwards and Merrell. Merrell's pinpoint cross picking out 'Den Perry Mason' at the back post, he met the cross with his left boot firing it across the face of goal for Gunn to slide in and hit his first shot of the season. One shot one goal for the season from Gunn!

Cobham were playing some very good football all over the park, with both wingers having a field day against the Stur Newton full backs. By the time Cobham went two-nil up it could of quite easily been three or four, with the best chances falling to 'Den Perry Mason'. It was from the trickery of Perry that the second goal was produced, he dazzled the Stur Newton defender so much that he induced the free-kick. From the resulting free-kick Merrell picked out the dwarf like Gunn in the box, with his very large forehead Gunn couldn't miss and duly dispatched the header into the net. Two shots two goals for the season, Gunn was now firing with both barrels!

From Sports coasting at 2-0 in complete control the game suddenly changed. Sports just seemed to hit the panic button, all hell broke loose in the Cobham defence. Missed tackles, sloppy passing and poor clearances resulted in lots of pressure on the Cobham defence, this took its toll eventually with Stur scoring a very scrappy goal with ten minutes to go in the half.

Stur came straight back at Cobham going for the equaliser but Sports sorted themselves out and started then cause some more trouble for the Stur defence. With a couple of minutes of the first half to go Cobham scored again to restore the two goal advantage. Williams won a tackle on the half way line, the ball fell to Edwards he spotted the run of Merrell from midfield and put him in on goal one on one with the keeper. Merrell knocked the ball past the on coming keeper and then slotted the ball into the net, a great end to the half for Sports.

Stur came out very strong in the second half, but just couldn't get past the Sports defence. Sports then started to cause problems of there own knocking the ball around well, but didn't mange to kill off the game. So it was no surprise when a Sports player lost his man from a free-kick and the Freak at Sturminster Newton got his head on it to guide it past the stranded Robbins. 3-2 game on.

The majority of the last 20 minutes was spent in the Cobham half, except for the occasional Cobham counter attack. It was one of these attacks that Sports created the best chance to kill of the game, but it was Gunn that fired a blank on this occasion with a free header from five yards that he put wide.

The game fizzled out and Sports held on for a well earned away win, the visit of unbeaten Holt should be a tougher task this week but Sports welcome back a number of players to strengthen the squad.

Cobham sports 1 - 3 Sherborne Town

Holidays forced the Cobham manager to make a number of changes to the starting line up. Paul Tucker, Liam Barret and Dan Godwin all were missing, this meant Penn started his first game of the season having previously collected splinters during the opening four games.

The first half was played at a very fast pace, with both teams having plenty of chances. Sherborne's best chance came in the last 5 minutes of the half when a header hit the outside of the post. But it was Cobham that took a lead into the break when Gunn was fouled in the area, Merrell converted the penalty sending the keeper the wrong way.

The second half was a very one sided affair, the wind picked up during the second half this resulted in the rest of the match being played in the Cobham half.
Cobham held on bravely for the first ten minutes of the half but sherborne eventually got on level terms, when a corner wasn't completely cleared and the Sherborne left winger struck a sweet volley into the far corner. This just opened the flood gates, as Sherborne then went on the rampage and scored another two goals within the next 15 minutes, putting the match out of Cobham's reach.
